Sky Scout

THE SKY SCOUT
Celestron

0010a

Sky Scout has proven to be the most popular star identification devices we have ever seen. It can be thought of as a personal planetarium. It not only identifies any celestial body at which you point it, but it tells you (visually and audibly) all about the body just as a planetarium director would. This includes facts, history, trivia and mythology concerning the body or constellation.

Compact and lightweight (like a camcorder), it can go with you to any outdoor night event, and will provide hours of entertainment for you and others in your group.

0010b

Key features are:

  • Identifies over 6000 stars, 88 constellations and many galaxies, nebulae and star clusters with a click of a button.
  • Provides comprehensive text and audio descriptions.
  • Tonight's highlights: a customized list of the 20 best objects for viewing.
  • Constellation Lessons: Take a guided tour through all the stars in a constellation.
  • Built-in Field Guide includes introduction to astronomy, glossary of terms, man-made space objects, help menu and comet guide.
  • Simple enough for all ages: just turn it on and it's ready to use.
  • High impact case with rubber armor makes it safe for worry-free outdoors use.

Sky Scout works by a combination of automatic GPS location and three axis sensors measuring gravitational and magnetic fields, in addition to its own extensive built-in digital astronomy database, to establish its current position. This eliminates the need to consult star charts or to make adjustments for time and location changes. it works in two ways: either point at a celestial body and receive the resulting information, or select the body's name in the menu and follow the on screen prompts (arrows) to center the body in the field of view.

0010cSD expansion cards are optional accessories which feature in-depth information on a variety of topics and are designed to be educational as well as entertaining. They provide additional text, audio, graphics and interactive lessons. Astronomy for Beginners covers objects in the sky, astronomical distances, star hopping and astro trivia. All About Stars covers star color, luminosity & magnitude, stellar evolution and astro trivia.

0010P A Portable Speaker plugs into the Sky Scout to let all in your party in on the audible briefings. The Li battery recharges from a computer USB port. It comes with an extension cord for easy placement, and a lanyard for hanging around the neck. An expandable woofer gives optimum sound quality. The speakers have been thoroughly tested and guaranteed not to affect Sky Scout accuracy.

Sky Scout is about the size of a paperback book, weighs less than one pound and comes with headphones, carrying case, hand strap, and a USB cable for connecting to a PC for downloading updates. Size is 2.5x4x7 inches. Power is from 2 x 1.5v AA batteries (not included) which last for about 3 hours. 2-year limited warranty. SW 3 lbs.
