Sailing Compass – NEXUS 70UNE Nexus/Garmin
Use this double duty compass in its bracket for steering, or remove it and use it as a hand bearing compass. Various mounting options are available at almost any angle. Many other hand bearing compasses are flat and if tipped, the card binds against the housing. No so with this. It looks like a large globe, but it is this feature that makes it easy to hold and use. The slope of the handle is just right to enable you to hold and sight down the lubber line. The handle also holds the batteries. Its gimballed compass card is dual reading (directional and horizontal), and reads both direct and reciprocal bearings. Graduations are every 5°. It comes with batteries and mounting bracket. Spare brackets are available for optional locations. The UNE was rated excellent by Practical Sailor, and floats if dropped overboard. Size is: 7.5” x 3.5” x 3.5”, weight is 13 ounces. SW 1 lb.
