Description

See the craters of the moon, the rings of Saturn, and the moons of Jupiter! This portable refracting telescope is a rugged, compact unit that has large telescope capabilities. Use it for astronomy and terrestrial viewing too. The portability and versatility of this telescope ensures frequent opportunity for use and enjoyment.
But let’s back up. The first thing any amateur astronomer should have is a pair of good binoculars. Do not even consider buying a telescope first. The ultimate in portability, binoculars offer unparalleled views of rich Milky Way starfields because of their low power and wide fields of view. Once this is appreciated, those interested in looking for fine detail on the planets should consider a telescope.

There are two basic kinds of telescopes; refractors and reflectors. Refractors have a lens in front (objective) and another at the eye (ocular) and are of tubular design. These are the “traditional” telescopes that have been around for years Reflectors, on the other hand use a curved mirror instead of an objective lens and are more fragile and complex.
The Travel Scope 70 features a two element achromatic (color corrected) glass lens system with anti-reflective coatings which provide sharp, high contrast images. It is ideal for viewing details of the planets and our Moon, even under city-light conditions. It is the perfect size and quality for beginners (children and adults alike) who don’t want to get bogged down with complex mechanisms. It’s also perfect for terrestrial viewing as a spotting scope because it has an upright image. Although it comes with two eyepieces, additional eyepieces may be added to increase magnification up to 140X under ideal viewing conditions. Its closed tube design requires almost no maintenance (except exterior lens cleaning), and the factory aligned optics will never need adjusting.

The Travel Scope sets up in seconds on its retractable full-length aluminum tripod, and packs away neatly inside the specially designed backpack. Celestial bodies are quickly acquired using its 5×24 finder-scope. A bonus included extra is the App, The SkyX—First Light Edition astronomy software with a 10,000 object database, printable sky maps and 75 enhanced images. Two year limited warranty. SW 13 lbs.
